Artist's Description
Science is portrayed here, victorious, having just slain Veritas who is an ancient goddess of truth. This painting, and it's companion painting "Triumph of Science" are explorations of the use and abuse of science as a belief system, and a pretext for subjugating populations. Modern day rulers rationalize their abuse of their subjects by insisting that they are "Following the Science" which is comparable to rulers in past ages claiming, in defence of their actions, that they were "Following God".
