Artist's Description
This charcoal drawing is my reinterpretation of a historical photograph by Edward Sheriff Curtis. After noting the strength of personality that can be seen in this woman, I aimed to create a comparably strong composition, with clear, bold form; I did this with charcoal on cotton paper. Pyramid Lake is a large lake situated in Western Nevada. The original inhabitants of the area are generally known as the Paiute.
